The other day I was reading about the 10 events that change your life: a wedding, changing houses, having a baby, emigrating, starting a business, quitting a job, loss of a loved one, divorcing. And now you will think and where is this coming from, very simple, I propose from these lines that the list be expanded to 11 events, and add, which I think is also important if you want a change in your life: CLEAN UP THE DISORDER. My experience has shown me that doing a good clutter cleaning can really and truly change our lives.

The reason … Sometimes we think that ordering is simply searching in a quick way what it is that you can recycle, donate or throw away from your home. And I would tell you that it is partly true, but I can also assure you that if it is approached properly it can be much more than just that. I've found that it can make a fundamental change in the way we think about our homes and our lives, and it can be incredibly inspiring.

What do I mean … Most of us would like to get rid of many of the "things" we have in our homes that we know are not useful to us, we do not like, we do not use or whatever we want, and we are looking for a way to do it, but how we overwhelms, we would like to carry it out quickly and easily. But I'm sorry to give you bad news, cleaning up the clutter in a way that really causes real and fundamental changes in our lives, and also maintains itself, it is everything but a quick job. Although to encourage you, I also have to tell you that it doesn't have to be difficult either !! Thinking about how to explain it with an example, I came up with something that surely more than one has experienced: dieting. How many of us have ever decided to go on a diet, I have more than one, and surely the vast majority of us have wanted to achieve it quickly and easily, and that is where we have erred. My experience has shown me that the times I have gone down the fast track - simply eating far fewer calories a day, without any other changes - I have gotten my results the way I wanted them, quickly and easily. And then you will be wondering, where is the problem, simply that after a few days of having managed to lose my weight and return to my old eating habits, UPS! my body regained the lost kilos. The reason, very simple, I have not made real changes in my way of life, I have stayed in the superficial part of the problem, and I have not really delved into finding out what are the underlying reasons why my body tends to get fat.

Well, I'm sorry to tell you that disorder tends to be the same. We want to lose excess "objects" quickly, and to do this we go like crazy looking for anything we can get rid of, and we fill bags with a lot of things. But, we only do that, get things out of the way, but cleaning up the clutter in a definitive way is much more, although that would be the first step to achieve it, I must tell you that if there are no fundamental changes in our way of seeing our things, our spaces , where we want to go, if we do not ask ourselves how we got there, and how we can make sure that disorder does not return to our lives, it is easy that after a few days piles of things are created again, and disorder surrounds us again.

The reason … We have indeed made changes that are visible, but we have not deepened. We have not looked at the reasons why disorder reaches our home, if we do not change the fundamentals, these changes will not last over time. The reasons can be many … More things come in than come out Things are not in the right place Everything that comes in is homeless We give too much sentimental value to objects We don't plan our day well We struggle to define adequate routines to keep clutter at bay Our organizational systems are not adequate We don't go through all of our belongings often We can't say no We fill our voids with objects We believe that objects will bring us lasting happiness We think that everything is useful and permanent We are not able to get rid of a backpack called «past» We are unable to identify the things that really help us to truly live our lives We do not set feasible organizational goals

Once we have exposed what are the reasons why disorder can come into our lives, we should identify which ones may be responsible for the disorder in our home and act to solve them. I must tell you that this work of reflection requires some self-criticism, it is important to know what our weaknesses are, our "black holes" so that disorder can approach us, and if we are able to recognize them it will be easier to address and solve them. To think that if you manage to change the fundamentals to clean up the clutter in your home, as I have announced to you, your life will undergo a real change and that I can affirm because…. We have not only gotten rid of things, we have also taken them to the right place. Everything will be grouped together and we can easily see what we have. Our home will work brilliantly and effectively for us. We will feel calmer in our house. We won't lose things that easily. We will spend less time cleaning as things will have their place. We will spend less time looking for things. We will spend less money, since we will not have to replace things that we could not find. We will start saying "no" to things that don't matter to us and spend more time doing what we really want to do.

Our home will become our refuge, not our Calvary.

Everything is achieved by looking for the right path. If we do it this way it will mean that order will become a habit that we will add to our lives, and I have to tell you that in the end it can end up being addictive, seeing how you shape your home and your life the way you really want it to be, It ends up "hooking," like the best drug. The order does not need quick fixes, but real changes.
