Curucuteando in Toronto - Things to Know

Writer's picture: Yazo GutierrezYazo Gutierrez

Having lived 10 years in Toronto, I am curious to see what things we know and that not the people who live in this beautiful city.

It was thus, that I gave the task of Curucuteando (Venezuelan phrase - curious, digging into things of my own or others) about the city and look what I found:

-. It is super interesting that due to multiculturalism in Toronto you can calculate that more than 100 languages are spoken! In addition, almost 50 percent of the population is not born in Canada!

-. In the alleys of Toronto, more often in Downtown, we can see scenarios of various graffiti or street works that in many cases are illegal, so colorful that they sometimes lend themselves to conflicts or rivalries among graffiti artists.

-. It's quite curious that in Toronto locals have the habit of saying goodbye saying: Let's do well! (Have a good one!) without specifying or adding anything else.

-. Canadians have early dinner, usually between 5pm and 7pm, which is the main and sacred meal. And during lunch they usually eat a sandwich or a simple salad.

-. In most Canadian households it is the custom to take off your shoes before entering, some of them even have comfortable canker sores for the customer, they are called sleepers. This habit is due to the amount of snow or rain during the cold months. They take off their shoes to prevent dirt from entering homes.

I'll keep researching and next week I'll bring you more of Curucuteando in Toronto.
