Singing villains, cooking Christmas dishes, making Christmas crafts or enjoying the Christmas lights are some of the fun activities to do with children on Christmas holidays 2020

Christmas is just around the corner and knowing that it will be a somewhat "lackluster" Christmas due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it becomes more important than ever to encourage and distract children who will also be on vacation shortly. Let's see then below, 8 fun activities to do with children in the Christmas holidays 2020.

The restrictions for Christmas 2020 are a fact, so that this year it seems that for example we will not visit the Christmas markets as in previous years and it even seems that there will be no Three Kings parade, so we will have to look for alternatives to the traditional activities that we usually do with the children every Christmas. Therefore, we want to propose these other activities that will allow you to have a fun time during your Christmas holidays. Activities also designed to be done with children of all ages.

Let's enjoy the Christmas lights in the city Christmas 2020 may be marked by restrictions regarding family gatherings and avoiding large concentrations of people like those that occur in the aforementioned markets, but that does not have to prevent us from taking advantage of the fact that now it gets dark earlier to go out for an afternoon walk with the children (well wrapped up) and take them through the central areas where we live or through the area where we know there are a greater number of Christmas lights. Surely they will spend a moment of illusion admiring the lights and also, we can take the opportunity to take some beautiful photos. Making Christmas crafts at home

Christmas crafts are already a classic when it comes to doing something with children during their holidays. From drawings to ornaments for the tree, garlands and we c

an even make a manger with figures or dolls with the children. Any idea they come up with will be good and we just have to make sure they have all the materials they need to carry it out.

Tell Christmas stories to children Whether while walking down the street, or being at home, before going to sleep, for example, this is a time when we can take the opportunity to tell children stories about Christmas, such as its origin, the story of Santa Claus or that of the Magi.

Listen and sing Christmas carols Another activity to do during the children's Christmas holidays is listening to Christmas songs and music. We can also start singing Christmas carols by organizing karaoke for everyone. It is not necessary to be in tune, what matters is to have fun together.

Cook a Christmas recipe with the children

Christmas is a time closely associated with food and more tradition al dishes, so we can take advantage of these days to, for example, cook Christmas cookies with the children, make hot chocolate or, in short, let them participate this year and we help with the cooking of Christmas dishes.

Prepare postcards and greeting cards Unfortunately, preparing and sending postcards and Christmas cards is no longer in fashion, but it is a tradition worth nurturing. A Christmas card made by children will be a unique memory for those who receive it or it can also be used to decorate the house. To prepare a Christmas card, rigid and colored cardboard, Christmas stickers, bows, glitter or crayons are enough. We have to fold the A4 cardboard in half and decorate the front as we want. Finally, it will only be necessary to write a small thought or a poem, we introduce the postcards in envelopes and send them to our loved ones.

Play Christmas-themed math games Christmas-themed math games are activities that take place mainly at school before Christmas. But why not offer them at home too? They are fun games after all, and being math-centric Christmas activities they allow kids to train with numbers while having fun. We can try these two games that we propose:

The Christmas account: to play we get together in groups and we will have to count in turns. Everyone will have to say the number that follows in the count. 1… 2… 3… when we get to the number 7, or any multiple of 7 or any number that contains a digit 7, we simply say "Santa Claus" or "Father Christmas" instead of saying the number. If a player says the number instead of saying "Santa Claus" or "Father Christmas", they leave the game. The count will be like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Santa Claus, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, Santa Claus, 15, 16, Santa Claus… and so on. Whoever stays last wins. The objective of the game is to review the numbers, their sequence and their multiples. It can also be played by substituting a word that is not Santa Claus but is Christmas. We can also try with the number 5 for a simpler version of the game or with 8 or 9 for a more difficult version.

Santa's Sleigh: This is a great Christmas activity to practice whatever math skills we choose. At first, the children are engaged in drawing, coloring and cutting a Santa's sleigh and many pictures of reindeer. The objective of the game is to be the first to add the 8 reindeer in front of Santa's sleigh. The game is played individually or in teams and you have to answer questions or solve exercises. The first player / team to answer correctly wins a reindeer to add to the front of their sleigh the first player or team with 8 reindeer will be the winner.

These are just a few of the Christmas math games you can play, but there are many others. Try to make them up or look for them on the teachers' portals.

Do a treasure hunt in the park Another good idea to have fun with the children during their Christmas holidays is to go out to the park and spend some time playing but not the usual games. Let's buy a special ornament related to Christmas, and hide it in an area of the park, then we give the children a map of the park that we can easily make on a sheet (and identify the most prominent areas or places for the children to identify them) and let the children look for what we have hidden. Whoever finds it first wins. Do you have more ideas to do this Christmas?

Is it some tradition that you want to share?
